Electrofonic is made by Superb Meteor LLC. This policy covers the Electrofonic iPhone app and this website.

There are no accounts, no sign-up, and no Electrofonic server at this time. When you use the app, it connects directly to your amplifier over your own local network. We never see your amplifier, your network, or what you listen to.

What the app never collects

The app is built so that this list is a property of the code rather than a promise:

  • The names you give your zones and sources. Analytics events report zones and sources by position — zone 3, source 2 — and there is no parameter a name could travel through.
  • Your amplifier’s address, or anything about your local network. When you change your amplifier settings, the app records only that the address changed, never what it changed to.
  • Anything you type. No event in the app accepts free text.
  • What you’re playing, or when. The app has no idea what is coming out of your speakers.

Your amplifier’s address and your zone names are stored on your device, and stay there.

What the app does collect

The app includes anonymous product analytics, provided by PostHog, so we can see which features get used and where people get stuck. You can turn this off in Settings, and it is a single switch.

Analytics are on by default. When they’re on, the app sends:

  • Product interaction events — that the app launched, that a connection attempt started and how it resolved, that a zone was powered on or muted, that a volume gesture settled, that a source changed. Zones, sources, and volume are numbers; nothing in an event identifies a room or a person.
  • The analytics SDK’s standard envelope — app version, iOS version, device model, and language, along with an anonymous identifier the SDK generates on your device.

That identifier is not linked to you. The app never calls anything that would create a person profile, and no account exists to attach one to. Reinstalling the app resets it.

The app does not use autocapture, screen recording, or session replay. Every event is one we wrote down deliberately; there is no general net catching whatever happens.

Being precise about your IP address

The app strips your IP address from every event it sends, so it isn’t stored as a property and isn’t resolved to a location. But PostHog’s servers necessarily see the address your phone connects from, the same way any website you visit does. That is your public internet address — not anything about the devices on your home network.

What we don’t do with any of it

We don’t sell it. We don’t share it with data brokers. We don’t use it to track you across other apps or websites, and the app carries no advertising or third-party tracking code. Analytics data is processed by PostHog in the United States on our behalf.

Turning analytics off

Open Settings in the app and switch analytics off. The app stops sending immediately.

Opting out sends nothing — not even a note that you opted out. That’s deliberate: reporting the moment you asked us to stop would be the one thing we shouldn’t do.

This website

This site has no analytics, no cookies, and no third-party scripts. It is static files. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, and GitHub keeps standard server request logs as part of serving it — see GitHub’s own privacy statement for what that involves.

Children

Electrofonic is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. The app links here rather than shipping its own copy, so what you are reading is always current.
